Namibia, in former times „German Namibia“, is situated in the southern Africa between Angola, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa and the Atlantic Ocean.
It has a total area of 824.292 qkm and at present approx. 1.900.000 inhabitants / 2.3 inhabitants per qkm.
The state capital Windhoek most densely populated is the city most important in Namibia. The name of the state derives from the desert „Namib“, which takes the entire coastal area of the country.
Official language is English. Most black people speak Oshivambo apart from their own Africaans languages, some also speak German.
Original landscapes, a fascinating animal world, numerous outdoor activities and this unique mixture from African and European influences make Namibia a so fascinating destination.
With over 300 sun days a year you can visit Namibia comfortably and safely the whole year. The largest part of Namibia lies in the tropical summer rain area, that means with irregular, but occasionally very violent rainfalls between November and April. The extreme south of Namibia lies in the winter rain area so that rainfalls if at all arise particularly in the months June and July.
Due to special climatic conditions an agricultural use of the country is possible only in limited measure: in the dry south cattle breeding above all, in the relatively heavy-rainfall north also agriculture.
For tourists Namibia has to offer much: The intensive colours of Namibia, the incredible dune and rock landscapes of the Namib desert, the full-green river oases in the Caprivi strip, the wild skeleton coast or also the Etosha national park with its animal wealth.
A characteristic of the Namib desert are the dunes in the area of Sossusvlei. The star dunes belong, with far over 200 meters height, to the highest worldwide. The attraction of this dune landscape lies however not alone in its height, but particularly in the colour play of the dunes dependent on the moisture content and position of the sun.
The road system in Namibia is characterized on far distances of crushed stone runways. An all wheel vehicle makes sense on many roads.
Accommodations are to be found in each category, from simple lodges and guesthouses up to first-class hotels with high, European standard.
